A man has been killed after he fell off a vintage tank and was run over, the California Highway Patrol has said.The tragedy is believed to have happened during a family reunion party in a private open field near Fairfax.
Patrol Officer Chris Parker said people had ridden tanks as part of the entertainment at the event.
Two men were in a 1944 M5 tank when the vehicle started going downhill and it passed over a bump.
A 55-year-old man who was reportedly sitting on the front edge of the tank then came off the vehicle and was crushed.
The victim was pronounced dead when the emergency services arrived.
The incident is believed to have happened on property owned by a man who collected military vehicles he had restored.
The victim was thought to be a friend of the owner’s family, who volunteered to help move the vehicles, Fox40.com reported.
