Police in Kentucky are investigating the death of a seven-year-old girl whose body was found not long after she vanished from her brother’s football game.
Gabriella Doolin was reported missing by her mother on Saturday night while her family attended a youth game at Allen County High School.
Within about 30 minutes, the young girl’s body was found in a creek in a wooded area behind the school, state police said.
An autopsy was performed, but authorities have not revealed a cause or the manner of death.
The investigation is being treated as a homicide, police said. Authorities did not immediately have a description of a possible suspect.
Gabriella’s death shocked the small, rural community about 65 miles from Nashville, Tennessee.
State police spokesman Trooper BJ Easton said: “This could happen anywhere, very quickly. I think it’s safe to say Allen County has changed forever.”
Local media reported that hundreds of people, including friends and family, attended a prayer vigil outside the town’s public library on Sunday night.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for funeral expenses.
