Former US President George HW Bush died at the age of 94. This was announced by a family spokesman at night on Saturday via Twitter. The Republican was from 1981 to 1989 Vice President under Ronald Reagan and then head of government in Washington for four years. His son George W. Bush was president from 2001 to 2009.

It was not until April of this year that Barbara Bush died. The two were married 73 years. The couple had six children, one of whom died at the age of three.

George HW Bush had to be hospitalized in the past several times. About two and a half years ago he broke a cervical vertebra in a fall in his house. Most recently, he was in a wheelchair.

From his tenure, especially the war for the liberation of Kuwait is remembered. He also showed a special profile after the fall of the Berlin Wall – as one of the very few western heads of state, he openly backed German unity. The then Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl paid him a lot of praise.

According to historian Mark Updegrove, George HW Bush did not have a good opinion of Donald Trump and did not vote for him in November 2016 even though he was his party’s candidate. Trump had stayed away from Barbara Bush’s funeral. The president said he was unwilling to attend the ceremony out of respect for the Bush family.
