Eleven Colombian military personnel have been killed in a plane crash, Colombia’s Air Force has confirmed.The burned-out wreckage of the CN235 military transport plane was discovered in Colombia’s northern province of Cesar.
According to the Air Force, the plane suffered a motor failure before crashing on Friday.
President Juan Manuel Santos paid tribute the victims in a tweet, describing them as “heroes”.
In a statement, Airbus, the plane’s manufacturer, said: “The thoughts of the company and its employees are with those affected by this accident”.
It said the plane was produced it Seville in Spain in 1998, adding that it had no further information at this stage.
The disaster comes almost three months after a new Airbus A400M military transport plane crashed during a test flight in Spain, killing three people.
