Arrests Made in Accidental Shooting At New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel


Police arrested two men Sunday after a gun accidentally went off at a wedding New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel Saturday injuring at least four people.

Vladimir Gotlibovsky, 42, is charged with reckless endangerment and assault. Police also said Gotlibovsky tampered with physical evidence after his gun discharged inside the famed hotel.

Felix Gotlibovsky, 51, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.

But a spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney said later Sunday that a prosecution into a gunfire incident is being deferred while an investigation is continuing and that Vladimir Gotlibovsky had a permit to carry the gun.

Authorities say the Brooklyn men were at the Park Avenue hotel Saturday night as a wedding was taking place. Exactly what caused the shot was unclear.

Police say four people were hit by shrapnel from the bullet or debris such as marble or glass. All had minor injuries.No one answered a phone listed for Vladimir Gotlibovsky. A woman hung up when contacted at a number for Felix Gotlibovsky.

It wasn’t immediately known how the two were related.

The Waldorf Astoria is one of New York’s best-known hotels. It’s where the president stays during the United Nations General Assembly.
