A Google executive died after being struck by a taxi while in town for the Cannes Lions advertising festival this week. The male executive, whom Google is not naming out of respect for his family, worked in marketing for Google in the United Kingdom, according to Business Insider.
“We lost a loved and respected member of our team. We are deeply saddened and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Google said in a statement.
Local police told CNN that a 30-year-old U.K. resident died in an accident during the night of June 21. He was run over by a taxi on the public highway. The Alpes Maritime Prefecture, which is in charge of the Cannes Police Department, declined to say if the person worked for Google.
This is the second tragic loss for Google in recent months. Google executive Dan Fredinburg was killed while climbing Mt. Everest during the Nepal earthquake in April.
